Q7 2.0 TFSI vs 3.0 TFSI opinions
 

Hi all,
I'm considering a 2017 Q7 and trying to figure out if I can get away with the 2.0 engine rather than 3.0. I've read that the 2017 2.0 actually outperforms the 3.0 engine in the 2015.

Can anyone provide some actual hands-on experience? Did you buy a Q7 with the 2.0 and later regret it or is the performance good enough?

The 2.0t is enough, but the 3.0t is a little quieter, more refined, and makes passing effortless.

I test drive both and I liked 2.0 performance and it is more than enough for my need and it performed way better than my Honda Pilot v6 250HP and order it but for some reason I didn't get that car so now i went for 3.0 prestige.

We test drove both 3.0 and 2.0. We ended up ordering a 2.0 but we still don't have it yet.

It's going to be my wife's car, 90% the car is driven around town where the max speed limit is 45.

We did take it out to the highway to check out how it did picking up from maybe 60 to 75 to pass another car. It did just fine. You definitely hear the engine more compared to the 3.0.

Here is the thing, if you are comparing it to a 3.0, the 3.0 is definitely nicer. It really boils down to whether you are willing to spend $6k more for those times when you are in the open road, not in town and not in bumper to bumper traffic or if you are planning on towing.

You are already looking at ~$60k car, so rational purchasing is out the window. (you can rationalize which is a different story). If you care about very refined over refined + $6k in your pocket get the 3.0 otherwise get the 2.0.

I haven't driven one, but based on past experience I can tell you that the bigger engine will always be better on a big 6000+lb vehicle. But it does sound like those who have driven it seem to think its adequate, so certainly saving the $6000 comes into play. Al depends on what you will use for and who is driving

Was a non-starter for me, as I wanted only a Prestige.

For me I could just copy/paste Enroli's reply, spot on.

On paper it performs like our Q5 2.0t and for my wife, that's just fine. I am scheduled to drive one next week but already ordered a 2.0.

I am not sure about outperforming. 0-60 in 5.7 sec versus 7.1. Gas mileage near identical

It does outperform a 2015 3.0 (non-S-line) which had a 7.7s 0-60.

only had the 3.0 when I ordered, but love the power and engine growl, even catch a little whine. Also the towing capacity I need can only be had with the 3.0T
