re: the headlights, there have been some other threads regarding them lacking in comparison to other vehicles in our SUV space. They are adequate, but certainly nothing to write home about. I am really bummed we do not get the full laser functionality in the US. I'll try adjusting them a tad higher to see if that helps. Luckily the majority of my driving was done during the day.

I also used the adaptive cruise control 99% of the time especially on the long stretches. The hard click up/down to bump in 5mph increments is great and makes controlling your speed so easy.

I did play around between D and S modes to see if it significantly helped with fuel economy but I couldn't really tell a big difference in gas consumption.

Do you have predictive function set?

We just completed our second family road trip in the Q7. Our first trip was over Christmas break from Austin to Orlando to take our daughter to Disney World. The car had barely over 100 miles before we did the long drive.

This past week we completed a trip from Austin to SoCal with my pregnant wife, two kids (niece 14 and nephew 11), and our baby daughter. We logged over 3300 miles over the week and had no issues with the car.

Here are some impressions:
  • Comfort levels were great. One of the kids complained about the 3rd row seating but we eventually moved him into the back seat (2nd row) and had no further complaints the rest of the trip.
  • Space was a constraint, despite the size. Thule roof rack solved that problem.
  • Apple carplay still sucks.
  • The headlights still suck unless you use highbeams. Almost hit a deer one night.
  • Arizona heat is no joke. 119F made my legs burn even with the AC on. Has anyone thermal tinted their front windshield?
  • Overall fuel economy was around 21mpg. The Thule didn't help.
  • Quattro made driving through a torrential downpour effortless.
  • The 3.0 V6 made passing and merging onto the highway a breeze.
Anyway, thanks for reading!

After reading on this forum about the hot dash and front seat occupants from the sun, I did a windshield and front 2 windows tint, using the one that helps repel the heat. Not sure what brand, but it made a big difference. Heading out on a 3,000 mile road trip next week.

I was working with my OBDeleven and noticed a function called "highway lights". It's suppose to increase the beam intensity at >68 mph and give an extra 230 ft of bright visibility giving more than 2 seconds longer to react to a road obstacle. I did not try it - yet. Did anyone??

no, I turned that off. I found it to be a bit too invasive and slowed the vehicle down too much around turns.

Holy crap that sounds awesome and exactly what I needed. Thanks for the tip -- I will give it a try tomorrow evening.

We did a 2500 miles trip as well in June and had no issues with the car. I used the adaptive cruise control with Auto drive 99 percent of the time and the car got 27 MPG! Very Impressive!

I found that the headlights are bright and adequate. There were a couple times that I did have to turn on the high beams.

I agreed that the cargo space is a little tight but we had plenty of room for our luggages for the four of us.

I had a local shop installed 3M clear crystalline 75% tint on the windshield and it did an amazing job of keeping my arms and legs cool.

Good feedback. Any issues w/visibility with the tint on the front windshield?

Aside from it dimming my HUD a bit, making rainbows when I'm wearing polarized glasses and being illegal in my state - I love tinted windshields! Really make a difference on the heat.

Nice pics OP... keep 'em coming.

Did Alabama to Gettysburg PA. In that one too. So far the new to us TDI has done two trips to DFW where our son’s family lives and last week Birmingham to Orlando with local grandsons. Three rows is a necessity when you have 8 grandsons!

We swung back and stopped by Grand Canyon as well! View from the South rim:

hm, the rainbow effect may be a deal killer but I'll do some more research. Thanks for your input.
