Default Q7 OEM Fix a Flat Capabilities

So i've been wondering a few things, since our Q doesn't have a spare tire....

If one is to ever get a flat, how effective is the fix a flat that comes with the car?

Does it seal up only top of the tire punctures or the sidewalls as well?

If the foam is injected in the tire, is the tire not able to be patched or plugged anymore?

I always carry around the portable tire plug kit with me and those work great and are semi permanent if the nail or what not is on the top of the tire. Obviously can't fix a sidewall puncture with that.

I can't speak for 19's that come on the car, but the 20 and 21" rims have run flats. So theoretically it should get you 50 miles to nearest service center. So no need for fix a flat.

the 21’s are not runflats, no such tire exists on the market in the 21 OEM size (at least in the US)

MY19 21s will be runflats - if the order guide is accurate.

yes, quite possible that a new tire is on the way or the new 19’s 21” wheel is not the same spec (other dimensions) as the current 21” wheels. But right now, all 2018 and 2017 q7s with 21” have never shipped from factory with run flats nor is there currently a runflat tire available in the US in the corrrct OEM size to put on.

i don't want this thread to go on a tangent of what tire is a run flat.

Main questions i have are:

1. does the fix a flat seal up sidewall punctures?
2. After the fix a flat foam or whatever has been pumped inside the tire, is that tire deemed useless or is there still a way to repair it?

1. Depends on the size and location, but not what it was designed for. High up on the sidewall towards the tread, maybe; lower down, maybe not. Sidewall damage on a run flat might also render it useless.
2. Yes - after cleaning. Since Audi does not have individual TPMS for each tire, only need the be cleaned up before repair, but likely an additional cost. However, if there WAS a 21" run flat tire (unless you are running summer tires), you wouldn't need Fix a Flat. Right now, you don't have an option....
