Default Rear Cross Traffic Alert, is it same as Pre-Sense settings?

The way Audi slams on the brakes, almost every time I am trying to back into a tight parking spot in the city is really getting to my nerves. If I change the Audi Pre-Sense to medium or late, will that help prevent this problem?
Does Audi really expect people to stop and wait for you to complete your parallel parking or is it so bad that it can't tell the vehicle is moving next to our car, not towards it?
If I can't change the setting, can the cross traffic alert be disabled completely?

I live in the city and also run into that problem. NYC Parking while cars are zipping by, bicycles or people go around you is sure to set it off if they are close so we expect it already and we get 1/10 chance of setting tripping it off when set to medium and we are ok with that. I tired the low and we felt that was too low.

We had the same problem in our XC90, I would set it on low. The audible warning is urgent enough to get me to brake when I'm backing out and a car is coming.

Thanks for replies, I hope Audi can also get smarter to understand the difference between parallel parking and getting out of a parking spot. Sounds to me like Audi needs one more sensor to determine if there is a vehicle immediately behind us that's stationary.
