Removing stuck RSE on 2017 Q7
Hi Guys,
I purchased a rear seat entertainment tablet from ebay recently for my 2017 Q7. All in all the tablet isn't too bad, I read articles on here about installing Kodi and figured this would be a good option for long trips. My car has the RSE wiring already done and I was able to insert the tablet without issues. It charges just fine but today I decided to remove it from the seat and was unable to. I applied quiet a bit of force but didn't want to break anything. I noticed there is a tab on the stem that plugs in to the seats, however that tab is loose (was like that when I got the tablet). I've read the manuals that came with the tablet as well and there is no mention of how you actually unplug the thing. I'm hoping this is something simple and I don't have a tablet with a broken tab release mechanism (and if it is, is there a way to still remove the tablet). Any help would be appreciated.

Anybody? I read some posts where a locking clip was mentioned, my guess is this is what the tab on top of the stock unlocks. Is there any other way to remove the RSE?

I wish I knew. I have the same problem right now. The release spring has disengaged (compared with the one unit that is out of the car) and the release tab is now attached to nothing. Should be easy enough to fix but since it’s locked in place . . .

I ordered a second tablet for the other side, supposed to arrive sometime next week, I'll take a closer look at the tab mechanism. Whoever sold me the original tablet must have gotten it out of their car somehow.

Dealer removed but did not disclose how they did it. The locking latch on the new screen had broken. Screen was covered under warranty and was replaced with new. Unfortunately dealer broke the trim flap when reassembling, so it will need to be replaced.

It’s easy to do
Came across this thread googling how to remove a stuck RSE from my own Q7... I realise this is a few years down the line but perhaps someone might benefit from my experience.
Use a small screwdriver to remove the mobile plastic tab that would be used to unlock the tablet if it was working - it’s just clip-on the two sides, simply in lip it and remove from the top.
Now, on the top side of the tablet holder there are two metal rings inside the plastic insert that goes in the back of the seat. Use the screwdriver to pull one of he two toward the tablet. This will unlock it and you will be able to pull the tablet outwards.
this plastic tab is obviously a bad design by Audi (or next base who made the tablets). The two plastic inserts that hold he metal rings are weak and break easily.

Solution to removing stuck rear entertainment
Tool needed - small flathead screwdriver
1. Insert screwdriver under side of the plastic release bar and pry it off. This is what is already broken and it should pop off easily.
2. On top of the bar you will see two metal holes - insert screwdriver in one and pull back this will release the latch and you should now be able to pull it out at the same time as you are engaging that latch.
