Because those would have costed over $150 bucks more. I do prefer the look of the Thule's however I don't plan on leaving them on year round, it also seemed a little more difficult to remove the Thule's vs. OEM so just went with OEM.

I have the Thule as well. Although I like the look, I was disappointed with the whistling at speed and how high it sits. I wish Yakima/Whispbar made a rack that fit the car. The Whispbar I had on my 2011 Q7 was silent, and sat lower off the roof.
Not hard at all to take on and off. Takes maybe 10-15min. I leave it off unless I need it, due to the whistlineg. It’s subtle, but enough that I can hear it on the highway.

My Thule Aeroblade bars don’t whistle at all and the sound with my Flow box is nominal even in excess of 60mph.

Are those the Thule aeroblade edge? There is asle going on at REI, thinking of picking them up. How easy is it install by yourself, REI charges around $30 or so. Do you guys have the Thule motion xt cargo box?

This is the Flow Box which is now called the Motion XT Alpine. While it is louder than having no box, it isn’t that noticeable. Especially because I usually have some music on when I’m heading to the mountain. It is important to make sure there are no gaps with the rubber stripping that runs across and that the box is centered and moved as far back without impeading the tailgate

With the roof bars can you still open the sunroof?

PeteDin206, Q7 looks great! I am looking at the same setup with the Aeroblade 7603 & 7604 with the Alpine XT.
With the Aeroblades on can you open the sunroof? What about when you have the Motion XT Alpine box installed?

I haven't tried to open the roof (apart from popping it up).. I think someone mentioned it wasn't an issue a while back though. Next time I have my box on I will try.

Went and checked the opening the sun roof with the bars and and there was no problem. I’m guessing there wouldn’t be a problem with the box either. There seemed to be plenty of space between the rack and the top of the sunroof. It may be an issue to push the roof all the way back to the extended open spot but I don’t have my box on so not 100% sure.
