Default Soon need new tires.

I have the Pirelli tires on my car and they will need to be replaced soon. Just wondering if the Goodyears still are having the "chunking" issue and if anyone has tried both brands. I can get the Goodyears at Costco for substantially less than any other outlet.

I assume you're talking about the 20" tires, If so I don't think anyone who has purchased the Goodyears as replacement tires have had the chunking issue. I could be wrong but I think the chunking issue was only on some of the OEM Goodyears that came with the Q7 from the factory..

I have the Goodyears with close to 8,000 miles on them and so far so good, but IMO the ride is stiffer than the Pirelli's.. It's a toss up, some have had issues others have had none. I recall seeing a thread a while back where a forum member said he got 65,000 miles out of his OEM Goodyears which is incredible, yet others have had issues with chunking at 1,000 miles so go figure..

How many miles do you have on your Pirelli's?

My runflat goodyear tires that came with the car are doing great at 10,000 miles. Note that I live in moderate temperature Southern CA with no snow/salt/weather.

Yes, sorry....tires are 20's. I have 14000 on the tires and they are wearing perfectly. Dealer did an alignment almost immediately after purchase because of a "pull to the right". I rotate regularly and run 32 PSI front and rear. Tires appear to have about 50% tread left but are getting really noisey. Interesting.....I saw a new Q7 at the gas station today with the 20 inch wheels that was equipped with Continental tires that were non runflats. Didn't get a chance to see what size they were. I didn't know Continentals were being used.

25,000 miles and looking at another 5000 or so with the original Goodyear runflats. No problems at all. But, looking at Contisportcontact 5 SUV non-runflats as the replacement. Not a lot of info on these tires, but it appears that they have the widest footprint of any 285/45 20s available.

If the Q7 you saw had 20" non-runflat Conti's I could almost promise you the owner switched them out himself.. Some people switch them out because conventional tires ride much smoother than the runflats.. If the Q7 came with, or even had a place to store a spare tire I would have taken the runflats off a long time ago..

Since you have 50% tread left at least you have plenty of time to research which ones to get..

I have the Pirellis which are wearing evenly, but at 12,000 miles they are definitely noisier than when new. I get a ru-ru-ru whining noise which I hoped was coming from one front tire, but after having the tires rotated yesterday the noise is still there. I may go with non-runflat 275x50 R20s even though they are not XL rated.
