Tire change- Goodyear to Continental DWS 06

Sadly, with ONLY 15K miles, My 21' Goodyear is showing the white nylon (Only on the front passenger side). To get rid of the summer tire for winter trip to Lake Tahoe , you do not have much chooses with 21'. After all, I picked Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06. Treadwear 560 VS 240 Goodyear

Initial 500 miles review: Quieter and more cushion ride. Handling is sharper or more responsive than Goodyear. It takes little time to get used to do. Overall, I think I made good decision.

Please share your experience with your tire replacement. :)

I've no personal experience with Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 tires, but a couple of my friends use them and like them.
If you did not do it when new tires were put on - I'd suggest checking your Q7 alignment ASAP before your new set will get similar damage. What pictures show definitely indicates an abnormal tire wear most likely caused by poor alignment.

Hopefully you had your alignment checked before the new tires. My Conti 21s prematurely wore out at about 12k (same type of wear as yours). I switched to the DWS 06 and they were awesome for about 2k then by 3k they started getting very loud and could feel the road vibrations in both the steering wheel and pedal. Turns out serious cupping issues on the fronts. Brand new DWS were now trash and had to come off. Bad alignment from the factory was likely to blame for the early wear on the Conti's (and I believe on a number of 2017/18 q7s that have reported poor early tire wear) and is likely what caused the DWS to fail. Given your Goodyears crapped out at 15k, sounds like a mirror image of what I went through, so if alignment was not checked, I suggest you do soon before your new tires go bad as well.

Yes. the alignment is schedule as soon as I replaced the tire. Thanks!

Also, the dealer told me to do tire rotation even though Audi dose not recommend on the service interval.

I've had good experience with the Conti DWS 06 on another car and a few friends have had them also, I'm sure you'll be happy with them.. And yes it's a good idea to rotate them..

The DWS is a great tire. I’ve had two sets ( old version) on a Mk1 Q7. You SHOULD have the alignment ( toe in) checked but I would suggest running more air pressure. The Mk1s with 20” wheels recommend 44 psi front for full load. I always run 44 psi front and rear and got almost 40000 miles from each set of DWS with no abnormal wear at the edges. We drove that 2011 Q7 122000 miles and never had an alignment done.

Very good suggestion for the tire pressure. Since the ride is more cushion, higher pressure won't feel too bumpy.

I have this exact tire on my X5 and very pleased coming from the Pirelli Pzero RFT. I have about 10k miles on them and they still look like new tires. Yeah I know my X5 isn’t a Q7 but having the staggered 20s on the X5 is a tire wear/alignment nightmare.

I see that you put these Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 on the black optics 21" rims. Do these Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 tires come in the 285/40R21 size? I don't see it on TireRack or Continental's website.

I put 295/40R21 which is fine. Also, feels like the rim gets a little more protection too.
