Tire change- Goodyear to Continental DWS 06
#11
The DWS is a great tire. I’ve had two sets ( old version) on a Mk1 Q7. You SHOULD have the alignment ( toe in) checked but I would suggest running more air pressure. The Mk1s with 20” wheels44 psi front for full load. I always run 44 psi front and rear and got almost 40000 miles from each set of DWS with no abnormal wear at the edges. We drove that 2011 Q7 122000 miles and never had an alignment done.
I think that is low. So, I put 35 psi front and 37 psi rear. Any recommendation?

I’m not qualified to overrule the Audi engineers recommendations but I do find it odd that they recommended 44f-49r psi full load for the Mk1 Q7 then recommended only 32f 35r psi full load for the Mk2. The Mk 2 is lighter than the Mk1 but it is not THAT much lighter. I will say that if I bought a Mk2 I would probably run something like 38f 38r psi as I like a crisper handling vehicle and I don’t like wearing the edges out on my tires. ;-) Perhaps the difference is due to the added stiffness of the OEM run flats. Remember, the DWS is not a run flat!

I run 32/35 psi (cold) in the GY runflats and IMO they ride pretty stiff now. I couldn't imagine running more pressure in them.. I don't like them but so far at approx 6,500 miles they're wearing fine..

In Europe, the MkII Q7 recommended tire pressure is between 2.3-2.6 bar (33-38 psi). 2.6 bar for full load, 2.3 bar for comfort. All four tires should have same pressure.

I momentarily forgot that your mk2s come with run flats. I’m sure you are correct. The stiffer sidewall of the run flats would allow ( necessitate) lower pressures. My logic would also lead me to blame this for the accelerated edge wear that some of you are seeing. It is harder to feel or detect low pressure in a run flat and that stiff sidewall would then apply a disproportionate amount of load at the edge of the tire.

There have been at least several people that I've seen reporting that sort of wear with their Eagle F1 tires. I have those same tires, and at 16,000 miles mine are not as bad as yours were, but they are still showing very premature wear on the outer edges.
Something was wrong with those tires and the alignment out of the factory.
