Default Tire Issues

I am sure I am not alone in feeling a great dislike for the run flats that I was forced to take on my 2017 Q7. The ride, noise and traction are terrible. I owned a 2008 for 8 years and never, ever had any tire issues, getting 50,000 miles for both sets I replaced. I am now told I have feathering after just 8000 miles thus contributing to the noise problem. My question is this, has anyone found a suitable standard tire replacement for the 20" wheels? I am ready to trash the runflats and go with standards with the slime and inflation kit. If anyone else is having problems, why are we not holding Audi responsible for putting trash tires on these formerly reliable vehicles?

I am on the same boat as you. I would like to find a "fix" as well.

BKAFRICK,

Great answer!

I ordered my Audi with the 20" run flats (Prestige) as I liked the wheels much better than the 21" optional wheels and.......I have run flats on other cars and they are fine. I have never experienced a flat tire in over 50 years of driving so I am not concerned about the inconvenience of not having a spare.

Now, all of this being said, I did find it annoying that they only other option was to spend another $1000, as you already spend more than that for the Prestige 20" wheels and then you get summer ratted tires, which are terrible if you need to drive at or below 40 degrees for any reason.

People are amazing when they offer opinions and do not have any real experience. Now, it would be difficult to argue that the run flats do not last as long are ride as well but than again, you save $1,000 in which to invest in a new set of tires when you need to do so. Just another take on the situation.

I am in the same boat because my current vehicle (and last one too) have run flat's, I've needed to get new tires every 10k miles, there aren't/weren't any non-RFT's available for those cars, and yet again I was hoping to switch the RFT's on my incoming Q7 (here this week) with non-RFT's but there aren't any alternatives.

Interesting. I have a three month old prestige, 2600 miles now!, with Goodyear run flats and love the ride. I have air suspension, & (luxury pkg), perhaps it masks any perceived issues.

HMMMMMM,

You bring up an interesting point. Mine is on order, with a production week of 5 /08 so I might still be able to change mine. I really am not sure on the "upgrade" as the cost add another $1,000 on top of the already increased price for the Prestige package tires and wheels. Complicated......

Another 500$ gets you the black optic package too. Wish I had that choice when I ordered. But I'm happy with my 20" so far.

I'm curious, have you checked places like Tirerack? I just punched in a 2017 Q7 20" and it came back with 5 options, only one of which is a runflat.

I agree with AWTX, my Q7 has the Prestige, Luxury and adaptive suspension with the 20 inch Goodyear tire. I have a comfortable, quiet ride with less noise than my 20 inch non-runflats in my '15 A8L.
