Went through the search but couldn't fun any specifics.

Just picked up the Q7 with the OEM 285/R45/20 run flat tires. I'm looking to replace these tires with cheaper non run flats alternative tires.

What non run flat and cheaper alternative tires can be mounted on the same OEM rim, specifically, the 285/R45/20 run flat tires?

My new 2020 has Pirelli RF's - 285/45/R20. It rides very quietly and smoothly but I'm not a fan of having run flats, regardless. Does anyone know if the Pirelli's are somewhat better(quieter) than the Goodyears? It sure rides nicer than the X5's we drove, which had RF's.

This has been discussed fairly extensively. Lots of owners move to 275/45 which has a diameter about 1% off the 285 tires. I have Conti DWS06 and couldn’t be happier. Lots of choices in that size.

Run Flats are awesome and worth the money. You have no spare and the "slime" might not work on some tire failures.

Multiple times I've gotten 50,000 miles out of my run flats and have used that feature 3 times to where I was able to get off the freeway and to a tire shop.

You should really think about keeping those

My Pirelli run flats got noisy at 10K. Got a flat at 14K and the tread depth differential on a new tire compared to the remaining three old tires was out of limits according to the tires stores and Audi. So I bought a set of non-run flat Bridgestone Duelers for about $1150 installed. They are 255/50R20 and still smooth and quiet after 17K.

If you go to 275/45/20 look at these. Newest version of the Scorpion Verde all season. I have them on my 2015 and they are very quiet. Will have to see about long term. The old version comes in the run flat for the 285/45/20.

Looking to keep my run flats. Currently have the scorpions but how are the Goodyear’s?

I'm on my 2nd set of Goodyears runflats - they ride hard summer or winter. Didn't do too much driving in the snow, but I was able to get around on them in hard snow packed roads. I had the non-runflat Scorpion Verde tires on my Macan S and felt better and more secure on the Goodyears in the snow (could be the different vehicles too). Not that it makes a lot of difference on a Q7, but the Goodyears are listed as a High Performance AS tire and the Pirelli is a Touring AS tire on the Tire Rack website. It that's true, I would think the Pirelli would give a softer ride.

Thanks for your input on the Goodyears. I was hoping to hear they felt softer than the Pirelli. My complaint with the pirelli are they got super noisy after 10-15k miles! Very annoying. Wish there we’re better run flat options!

I just installed Bridgestone Alenza Sport Run Flats in 275/45/20 on my 2018 Prestige with 30k from the GY RFT's. Noticeable difference. Only have a few miles on them but initial impressions are very positive. Only downside is the speedo is about 1.5-2 mph off (faster, reading 70 when GPS apps show 68-69 mph). Much cheaper option too. I'll post updates as more mileage and time passes.
