Was going to hardwire my dash cam and was surprised about the fuses being in the footwell too, but glad I found this thread.

OP did you have to remove any extra panels to get into the footwell fusebox or can you just slide the wire through from the driver side fusebox? Also to remove the A-pillar trim, would I just remove the airbag logo, loosen the screw and then carefully remove the panel?

Have hardwired dash cams on all our other cars but with this being a $75,000 car I'm a bit hesitant. Thanks!

I used a valintine1 for years but gave it up because of all the false alarms these days.

There is no need to remove any other panels. Just shine a flashlight from the footwell area and you should be able to see the light coming from the footwell fusebox to the driver's side fusebox. And that's where you can fish the wire from. Regarding the A-pillar trim, it's not needed to remove it. Just use a plastic trim removal tool to tuck the wire into the seam.

On our Mk1 Q7 I hard wired from a fuse tap in the driver side fuse panel and hid the lead behind the A pillar trim much like this. On my newer S5 I tapped the (already fused) switched power lead from Homelink in the overhead console. This was easy and works well. I worry a bit about routing a wire down the A pillar as there is an airbag in there.

Thank you. Do you remember what add-a-fuse you bought? Do you think this one will fit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BGELQ/

I was thinking of doing a mirror tap but not sure if it voids the warranty and I want use one of those battery discharge prevention boxes and don't think there's enough room so going the down the a pillar.

I'm not worried about the airbag... as long as a remove the A pillar trim and zip tie the cable securely like I did for our passat it shouldn't be an issue: http://cl.ly/0x263d451C1h/IMG_5909.jpg

I did the mirror tap and installed Escort 360, now my question is should I remove the Radar detector or the wires when I take the car to dealer for service?

Different brand vehicle but I wired into an empty slot in the fuse box and the dealer saw it and disconnected it. BS about could cause trouble with computer. Being lazy I went to a stereo shop and had them do it over. They got power from the switched cigarette lighter and they said it's the only safe power source on new cars. At $75 not a bad deal.

Thanks for the great information.

Any issue with the suction cups on your detector not holding 24/7?

I live in Wisconsin and I have to mount my detector by mechanical means.

This is the best mount I have ever found. Stays secure even in the Alabama sun!
