Trunk close
This might have been answered before and probably works as designed, but still checking. Is it true that u can close the trunk using the keyfob and/or the trunk release in the driver's door panel ONLY IF the car is on? If its off, the only place u can close the trunk from is the trunk itself. Seems kinda strange.. My BMW does not allow it either but it does not allow it period, regardless of the car being on or off.

I don't know- That was actually my other question I did not get a physical manual and there is none in the MMI. How do I download one?

You can search google and download one. Its a 100MB download
As far as I know the ignition must be On in order to use only the switch in the drivers door. However, you can use the remote and the trunk lid button to close with the ignition Off. But to use the remote I believe you have to be behind the vehicle and no more than 9 feet away.

you can close the trunk w/keyfob so long as you are behind the vehicle. the car does not need to be on. it is overall a very confusing process designed to be overly safe, not convenient.
