Using 275/45/20 instead of 285/45/20

The OEM 20" stock rims are 9" wide so 275 should fit without any problem. The 295 might not fit the OEM rims as they are not wide enough. Use the tire size calculator posted above to see what tire size, wheel diameter, and rim range might fit.

I’d never go with a smaller diameter tire. Less between you and the road and chances are it won’t look good. Id go larger if they fit.

The problem is they are already pushing it by putting a 285 on this rim.

Just bought 275/45/20 Pirelli Scorpian Verde AS Plus for $230 bucks each vs the $350 for the 285's. These also have a higher thread so they should last longer. Will replace the rears with the same size once they go.

I think you mean "tread". Thread is for sheets and towels...

Pasquale, will this new, smaller tire still meet the load carrying capacity required for your vehicle?

Max load per tire is 130lbs less but I don't think any of us are loading our Q7 to those extreme weights.
285/45/20 is 2469
275/45/20 is 2337
255/55R19 is 2403

Has anyone looked at going with a 265/50/20 on the OEM 20x9" wheel? Lots of options and they are even cheaper cost wise than a 275/45/20.
Seems like most 265/50/20 tires have a tread width close to 9 inches and fit a wheel width of 7.5" - 9.5".
Overall rolling diameter is 30.5" on the 295/50/20 versus the 30.1" diameter on the 285/45/20 (OEM Goodyear runflats). I would rather go larger than smaller, but that's just me...
It will fit the wheels and the profile won't look funny, but will you compromise a bunch of handling by going with a 265 vs a 285 tire?
