Default What is this "LED" for?

I've seen this on different Audi models (maybe all?) but it's not documented in the manuals I've read and I've never seen it go on. Does anyone know what it's for?

Thanks,
Jonathan

I believe it’s a sensor - ambient light perhaps?

I thought that too and maybe that's the case. Perhaps that is how it knows when to turn on the internal light trims?

It could be for internal lighting or it could be used as part of the HVAC control; more light = greater heat load due to midday sun, therefore boost the AC output...

It's the temperature sensor. There are several threads here about it.

That's the temperature sensor used to detect the temperature and control AC output.

Thank you for that link. My initial search didn't flush it out!

So I can accept this explanation but another question then comes to mind; how does a car with the ability to manage 4 different temperature zones do so with only 1 sensor (facing the driver)? :-)

Thanks,
Jonathan

Good question, I tried to fool it by putting my finger over it for a few minutes. Nothing changed in terms of system operation, the fan didn't blow any stronger, nor did the temperature go any cooler. I guess there are multiple sensors that are being employed here to determine what actually happens.

may also not respond to sudden and very brief changes in temp
