Default What is a "reacquired car from manufacturer"?

Brother in law is looking at a 2016 Audi A6 (yes, realize this is the Q forum but my question is not about the model). It has 16k miles; balance of factory warranty. They are saying they cannot CPO it because its a "reacquired car from the manufacturer". I have bought a lot of cars, both new and CPO and never heard this excuse before. Anyone have any insight that would help me help my BIL? Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing. A forced buyback, perhaps. To me, the biggest benefit of a CPO is the extended, often better than a new car WARRANTY. I'd probably pass.

I think it would all depend on the price. Years ago, when a new pick up truck cost $20,000 I bought a reacquired truck. The salesman was honest. He said that whatever was wrong with the truck caused the manufacturer to take it back and refund the money. They don't just throw them away, the fix what ever was wrong. Being that the manufacturer doesn't really 'fix' things, they just replace whatever part went bad, you have a change at a pretty good deal. Like I said, this was a long time ago. New pick ups were $20,000 and I bought this one for $13000. With full brand new warranty so I didn't have to worry. It did come with a re-manufactured title but when I was saving close to 40% it was worth it. When I traded it in, no one cared about the title. I worked the deal and at closing handed them the title. The closer just dropped it into the deal bag after I signed it.

I would only worry about the price. Make sure it is worth it. If you are only going to save a couple of thousand dollars, just buy a different one. But if the savings are huge, go for it!

Thanks all. This is what I was worried about. If they wont CPO it that should be the first question mark. I told him to skip it and he did.
