Default wheel alignment

I will be getting new tires next Friday and was wondering if the Q7 needs alignment. I'm going with Continental DWS06 295/40R21. Is it necessary to get an alignment for new tires? My 2017 Q7 has 18000 miles and the roads in my city has very little pot holes. If alignment is necessary, do I have to let Audi do it or could any shop do it?

Thanks.

If you dont have tire wear issues or pulling you dont need an alignment. If you have the Driver Assistance Package the cameras will need to be aligned. Not sure if independent shops can do that.

Our 2011 Q7 went 120000 miles without ever having a wheel alignment. Unless something wears or gets bent by impact, alignment shouldn’t chang.e. If tires are wearing evenly and the vehicle tracks straight and does not pull to either side, I would avoid having it aligned. ( sleeping dogs )

I had an alignment done on my 2014 A8L and it had DAP. Was a nightmare the dealer had to loosen the subframe or something and align all these systems. Nashua Audi took care of me for a really honest price but it was a lot of work. Definitely don't want to go to your local tire place to get an alignment on these cars with all the electronic driving aids any more or you will be paying for the alignment twice!

Why do the cameras need alignment for a tire change?

They don’t. If you change certain alignment parameters the thrust angle of the vehicle changes and the cameras need recalibrating. I would not do an alignment just for a tire swap unless there was an issue.

Thanks for clarifying Corgiman!
What matters as well during an alignment with all the electronics is if they center your steering wheel before adjusting tie rods (and toe in/out) in the front. Otherwise when you hold the wheel straight the parking aids and whatnot will think you are not going straight ahead because they aligned it with the wheel off center to start...
