Default When does engine auto stop kicks in?

Does anybody know when does q7s auto engine shut off kicks in? It used to for me when I was in red lights but I have noticed it didn't the past few days. The auto shutdown disable button is not illuminated in the dash...I was checking if there was some logic to it?

If there is, I can't figure it out either. It seems random, even on trips that I make frequently, there seems to be no pattern. Further, mine stumbles on restart sometimes, which makes it really annoying...I have begun to turn it off more often.

If AC is on, especially at lower temperature and higher fan, the auto stop/start won't kick in. When that is the case, you will see the "A" icon with a slash in the console. This is documented in the owner's manual, and there are other conditions that will temporarily disable the feature as well.

I really hope that one day we will be able to disable this start/stop function and have it stay disabled upon car restarts via VCDS recoding, as it was it earlier Audis with start/stop.

I cannot stand this "feature" on cars.

I don't know how Audi decides which model will remember if you want it off or not. The A6 2.0t will always keep it off, but the A6 3.0t will make you hit it every time.

There are a number of parameters that are considered in order for the system to be active:
- how hard your foot is pressing on the brake - if it isn't pushing hard the engine won't stop
- battery voltage
- call for heat or cool - depends upon how close actual cabin temp is to set temp
- ambient temp - doesn't operate below about -10C
- steering wheel position - if the wheel is turned past a certain point it won't be active

There are probably more..
