Default Why did you buy your Q7?

For me it was a combination of performance, handling, safety, technology, luxury and practicality. I could have found a different car that was better in any one of those categories, but not one that was really good in all of them.

Also the consumer reports rating that put it 10 points higher than anything comparable also was an influence.

It had 1) 4-wheel steering, 2) semi-autonomous lane-keeping, and 3) air suspension, not then available in BMW. They are now.

Because:
1) BMW product was dated
2) MB product was dated
3) Q offered the best tech and luxury at the time, and had a somewhat usable 3rd row. I had no desire to switch brands but the market made me.

Space, comfort, tech, CR ranking, in roughly that order. We're a BMW family but the X5 did not impress compared to the Q7. Wife greatly dislikes MB so that wasn't even an option.

Wanted German brand, high CR rating, needed three rows, inside had better looking and more advanced technology (more updated and clean look) than BMW. Very impressed with interior.

For its larger size than other models considered, appealing design and what I thought would be efficient MPG (which is 18-20 MPG for a 85% city / 15% highway, conservative driving style). The technology doesnt thrill me all that much and I have most of them turned off. Audi sense(?), to me, screams for an accident (likely a someone rear ending me).

I can’t believe how many people are mentioning CR. I for one could care less what they think about anything.

Q7 has had an edge on competition but with the releases of the new X5 this month and GLE this year that’s changing.

Short answer: Nice technology, fit the family with without jumping to a full size.

Compared to the best contenders cross shopping (about 2 years ago):
I liked almost everything on the Q better than the X5.
The Macan was more fun to drive, but after I equipped it similarly to the Q it was about the same price but a much smaller vehicle (which is ok for around town, but not adequate for trips).
Model X wouldn't work for trips (too long to recharge) and is like $30k more.

The decision wasn't too difficult at that point.

Why's that? They have tons of experience, very extensive testing, and are untainted by any advertising.

We bought the 7 primarily because our Q5 has been virtually flawless in 70k, and because it was the nicest interior of any 3 row AWD car available.
