What do you guys have setup for winter? I'm thinking of going down a size, perhaps even 2, although I' afraid 19" might look a little weird.
Nokian Hakka R2 SUV on some 20" TSW

I've used OEM Audi Q7 wheels with winter tires on them on 2012 Q7. I see also that the Tire Rack has 18" wheel/winters package as an alternative setup for 2017-2018 Q7. I am actually thinking about getting 18" set from them in October. Their 19" set is about 50% more expensive.

By the way, anyone has an experience with Yokogama Ice Guard tires? Would appreciate hearing your opinion.

Thanks!

Thanks guys for the suggestions.

Went to Costco and the only ones that they had are the Pirelli Scorpions @ 21", which were well over $600 per tire and would not include wheels. Dealer had the 19" version of those with alloy wheels for $3300.

I'll look online at 1010tires since they are local in Canada.

I have a set of original Audi wheels taken from a 2014 Audi Q5 TDI S-line (perfect fit with no need for spacers). They are 20" with Nokian Hakka R2 SUV winter tires. Took them on a road trip through a heavy blizzard in Wisconsin and the Nokians are quite frankly the most amazingly capable winter tires I've ever had. Well worth the extra $ over the previous Blizzaks and other brands of winter tires I've had in the past. I'm a Nokian believer now.

What size Nokian? They don't have 285/45R20. I see 275/45R20 or 265/50R20.

I went with 275/45R20... rolling diameter difference versus stock is minimal and there's <1 mph error at 70mph.

Problem is that the nearest Nokian dealer is a small place. I doubt they would do free seasonal tire changes like Town Faire, who is much closer to me and has Michelin and Blizzak.

I am pretty sure I will get https://www.nokiantires.com/hakkapeliitta9/en because they are studded. I bought three sets of winter tires for my other cars last year, and one was studded. I was cautious as I expected lots of road noise. Nope! They are not objectionable at all, but much better on ice.

Also, Town Fair not having them doesn't matter as they will change over tires for free even if you don't buy them there. Weird. I guess they make money on the balance and try to sell you unneeded alignments.

I plan on going with 265/50/20. General recommendation is to go narrower in deep snow as it will bite down to the ground better. Lots of options available in this size. Going to put the snow tires on the factory 20s and use those as my winter set up. Went with aftermarket BBS wheels and will swap the factory run flats over to these.
