Re: 25V talledega Intake.
Recent credible information states that Audi used a 20V head on the Talledega car. Time to revisit those pictures and look carefully at the head.

Kinda looks like
it came through the AudiSport werks.
Both Kolb and Mayer used those aircraft type connectors for the injector harnesses.
I don't know about bolting to a "20V" head though. It doesn't seem like there's enough meat on the head to fit those wide ports in. Plus the vertical spacing on the bolt holes seems way off.
Curious...

There are 2 in a 25V..
The actual pictures of the car at the track should be examined to see if the head is a 20V or a 25V head. Comparing the manifolds to 20V equivalents, the spacing of the ports is a bit wider which means the #1 and #5 cylinders seem to be pushed out about 3-4mms. The 25V intake also has a noticable one into 3 split in the casting right up against the head. The other 2 castings that comprise the intake seem to be the same.
The Actual Talledega car clearly has a tube manifold which means it could be anything. So that is not useful. But is one confirmation of the 20V because why not use the casting if its a 25V?
Need to look closely at the intake in the photographs from Ned's site. BTW, Hoppen is the guy who claims the 20V was used at Talledega via Pribs. That would seem like a credible source to me so its likely true. Why else would anyone claim that?

The rear of the intake manifold around #5 cylinder appears to have the triple split. I don't see any adapter plate between the intake and the head. The cam cover is not stock for anything in 1986 and it seems like the spacing of the cams are farther apart making the head wider at the top.
What do you guys think? Is this a 25V head or a 20V head?

I'll bet $10 the head pictured is the 25V.
From the part numbers, the casting of the exhaust manifold and degree of finish on those parts that James has, it sure looks like they were looking for some kind of production for the 25V. That seems like a whole lot of work to go to just for research, when they could have done it with the four cylinders that actually went into production.
I just read on pictures of the plaque in the Audi Museum, that "Motors of this construction are direct from the engine development of the Audi S6 chassis (no mention of series, but probably C4) and were used for high speed testing at the oval track in Nardo (Italy)." Interesting.
BTW, does anyone know what chassis 07A part numbers would be for? Is that perhaps signifying prototype or?
I would also bet that had Group B not been cancelled, the 25V I5 turbo would have been in the rally cars, and further, that it would have been in a mid engine car. I guess that would be a question for Roland Gumbert and/or Ferdinand Piech.
