Default few more urq questions...

just a few things ive been thinking about.. what size wheels and tires can you fit? id like to run a 15 or 16" rim, which im sure is no problem, but im concerned with width. as far as i know, the more rubber on the ground the better and the 4kq is very limited in tire width. (feel free to correct me if im being an ignorant youngster, at least ive grown out of the "lets put 19" rims on everything!" phase)

next, brake upgrades. i think i read about a G60 brake conversion on here? whats the deal with that? or any other upgrade?

easy one, whats the urq bolt pattern?

im thinkin about pickin up the white 83 from chris semple. its exactly what im looking for, my choice of engine and trans(which ive already decided), does anyone have any objections to that car? in my 5th year of audi (4k and 4kq)ownership i think im ready for an urqattro...

Default Re: few more urq questions...

5X112

I'd go with 8" width. Preferably the 15X8 ronal R8s if you can find them.

Also there are some BBS wheels which are obtainable in 16X8 which will look pretty good. Ronal makes a BBS copy called the LS series and they're available in 16x8.5

9" wide will rub on the fenders of a street urq.

As for brake upgrades. Most people going serious brakes for urqs go with a BIRA setup since. www.bira.org

A G60 conversion uses the rear brakes from a urS4 (I think). Not very expensive as G60s are pretty common.

Default G60s are the twin piston front brakes.....

Mine are from a FWD 5000 turbo, I think 1986. I do believe that the Urs4/6 used them too.

Default Rock, I'm running a 205 40 R17's on my Urq and they are fine...

...except on poorly paved road. Shake the crap out of the car. I suggest a similar set up on that 83. My tires are Yokie Evo h4's and I'm happy with them. My rim and tire size are different but the height and with of the combo are the same as a 15X8" Ronal wrapped in 215 rubber. G60's are the cheapest upgrade around. They are stock on the Type 44's so hit a couple of Junkyards and you might find some or hit the 5000 forum, plenty of guys with parts cars on that page. As for Chris's white 83, I was gonna buy that car you bastid. Just kidding, I talked with Chris at UPG-CT about buying it to mod up but funds are low so, go for it. It's an excellent platform to drop a 3B in. Do the deal Rock.
