HOW TO: Accelerator Pedal Bushing Repair
Went to go for a drive after some repairs on Saturday. I went to hit the gas and the pedal went to the floor. Thought the cable broke.. Limped it home , looked under the dash and found a HACK JOB by a previous owner ( See 1st photos )
I needed to drive the car so I went to wrk making some bushings. The repair worked perfect and the car feels much better
Heres a quick step by step with photos.
1. Photo of HACK JOB by previous owner
2. Photo of old rotted bushing and accelerator pedal linkage
3. Photo of 3/4 inch antenna rubber body plug used for the bushings
4. Photo or antenna plug being wire wheeled down to size to fit into pedal linkage and pedal. ( left a bit larger than opening to ensure tight fit )
5. Photo of trimmed down bushing
6. Photos of bushing installed into linkage
7. Photo of drill bit, used to drill hole in bushing. ( Use a bit just smaller than the tab on the linkage to ensure a snug fit and so that the bushing wont slip out of linkage )
8. Photo of bushing being drilled out. I placed lube on the inside of the hole in the bushing to eliminate any resistance.
9. Photos of final mounting of pedal and linkage bushings. NOTE: I secured the cable and linkage pins with small ZIP ties to make sure they didnt slip off. The fit was tight enough that i dont think they would slip off, but the zip ties will kep them from doing so.
I hope this helps someone else who runs across a simular situation and needs an emergency repair. I still ordered the factory bushings. ( For spares ) lol
AW only allows 5 photos per post, so I will post the other photos below this thread...
