Default Locking compound on CV joint splines is recommended. What is D6?

For reinstalling strut. I have these instructions from Audi page 40.7.

1. "Replace gasket on inner CV joint." (ops I probably don't have that. Who want's to mess with the inner joint at this point?)
2. "apply locking compound D6 approx. 5mm wide around splines. Then install sub axle."

"NOTE
allow locking compound D6 to harden at least 60 minutes."

Well I do have some new loctite blue stick threadlocker and some 12 year old loctite 242). Equivalent to 1982 'D6'? .

I have a feeling that I'll be removing this strut again for some body rust repairs and I also have a feeling nobody really puts the locking compound on the splines. Is it super important? If I put locking compound on maybe I will need to press out the stub axle next time.

Default Sometimes, sometimes not..

Sometimes, sometimes not I use blue locktite.

I'm not really sure what it's supposed to be doing there, and I didn't know if it was = D6. Is it?

Somewhere I read that someone surmised that the loctite was to prevent moisture from getting into the splines. Maybe, maybe not, but it sort of makes sense too, as rust in the splines would be bad.

On the other hand, of all the times I've pulled out a CV joint, i've NEVER had a problem getting one out, withought more that a bit of a tap. Using loctite some times, sometimes not.

So really, I guess my answer is
"I don't know"!

But If you use the CV joint nut over agin, I'd sue blue locktite there for sure. I think those nuts are really only 'supposed' to be used once, for their self locking properties.

Default

Still curious, but actually the hub splines have rust - the loctite probably won't hold anyway.

Default Clean the splines up, and torque the nut

Clean the splines up, and torque the nut (maybe using loctite on it, if reusing), and call it good.

I think the rust that was though of is 'serious' rust, and not surface rust.

Me, I'd clean up the splines, and lightly lube them to prevent rusting. In my case, between replacing wheel bearings, body repair and suspension repair, I'm always having struts off regularly enough that CV joint spline rusting won't be a problem. :-)
