Im not sure what you mean. That car pictured is a US version, and my car aswell is a US version, and neither that car, nor my car have rear bumper plugs.

At first i thought that someone had shaved my rear bumper but now im not so sure.

It's not a Euro rear bumper, they have built in reflectors.

Default early vs late bumper

I think early US bumpers had plugs and late bumpers do not.
I'd have to look in ETKA, but I think the cut-off is in '83.
I have a late '83 and do not have plugs.

but it looks like i wont be having to chop up my bumper to fit the plugs. good stuff.

You probably won't find the exact cut off date... but it was at the same time when 1983 models changed to underhood fusebox and new style suspension around VIN 750 or so. Again, because they were hand built some have new style suspension but still have Rabbit fusebox and some have new harness/fusebox but still had the old suspension. YOu can be sure that by VIN #800 all had new suspension, new fusebox and no plugs in the rear bumper.

Hope this helps.
