Default New Ur-Q Owner w/ a few questions(long)

Hello. My name is Britt. I Recently purchased an 1983 Ur-Q. It is Mars Red on brown/green "Zebra" cloth. It has just over 68,000 miles on it. The car has all the options; heated seats, rear glass washer/wiper, power glass sunroof. The previous owner installed a set of Borbet type CF wheels. The interior is nearly perfect, as is the engne bay and the trunk.
I bought this car off of ebay for a very good price, IMO, because it was cheap, it had been wrecked and Im quite the mechanic, and I have always wanted one of these.(I deeply regret selling my 86 CGT). It had apparently been hit pretty hard on the left-front fender, spun around and hit the left-rear quarter panel on something. But I soon found this car to be a very easy fix. I got the inner fender straightened out and another fender put on. It's ready to go into the body shop now to get the rear quarter panel fixed and have the car repainted.
I haven't gotten the car road worthy yet, but it cranks up easily, idles VERY smoothly and seems to run great.

My questions-
Did this car come from the factory with a power glass sunroof? I didn't think Audi ever put a glass sunroof in the Ur-Q, but the previous owner assured me it came like that stock. There is a tag under the sunroof that has some German writing on it, which leads me to believe this sunroof wasn't done in the US.

And- Does anyone know where I can find a set of smoked taillights/"coupe" bar? I have searched ebay and ebay.de but I haven't found anything. I need a set because my left tail is busted and the "coupe" bar is cracked, and I'd rather put a set of smoked tails on it rather than the original ones.

And- I will be purchasing some euro headlights soon. Do I need a different grille rather than the one that is on the car now?

Check the poster for more pix.

Depending on how much spare time I have, I'll try to be an involved member here on the TQC/URQ/SQ forum.
Any input is appreciated. TIA. BrittM

Default Welcome to the listMR83Urq...

To answer your question regaurding the Erou headlights, it depends on what style headlight you buy. 1983 Urq's had the flat grill so you would want a set of flat Euro-spec lens to match. Since it was hit in front you could upgrade to the 84/85 sloped grill and euro lens essembly which is the most popular conversion. If you descide the latter, a 85-87 4000 grill is what you need. Should be easy to find. The sloped lens, try ebay from time to time, this sight, or Chris Semple at Force5auto. He had a set for $300.
You will have to change the wiring harness for the lights to H4/H1, whach can be a pain but you be happy with the end result. HTH

Ya- im the guy from Madison. I used to go by 86CGTATL. Maybe by the next meet, she'll be driveable. I'm trying to do as much as I can myself, and Im trying to have it in the body shop sometime within the next week or so...
Ya, I know of one other Ur-q in the ATL area besides mine. The guy I bought this one from is the guy selling the rusted out/hail damaged 84 urq on ebay. He has 3 ur-qs, all of which are in sad condition.

Ill try to check the SE forum every once in a while to see if/when theres going to be a meet.

Default I've got a spare set of flat front cibies

One of the mounting points is broken but I have the piece that is broken off and it could be easily epoxied, let me know if you want them. Lenses are in decent shape, some pitting, only have one of the city lights though.

It'd require the upper and lower headlight trim from a 4k and the steel mounting frames available thru Chris Semple, europrice, blau, etc. as well as a wiring harness/relays.
