Default next question...what do the numbers stamped on the little plate riveted on the passengers side

upper fender support relate to?

This is how they are stamped and spaced:

857 422 Y6Y6
12 5 9040

Is this some sort of build tag like what you find pasted in the trunk of the CGT's?
Anyone going to H2O fest tomorrow,Sunday, cause I'll be there all day.
Thanks again,

Default Where exactly is that plate? Decoded inside...

"857 422" is a sales code for the USA urq.

"Y6" is the sales code for Gobi Beige (your original color, right?). Not sure why it's repeated. FYI, the corresponding paint code (that a paint shop should understand) is Y1V.

"12 5 9040" - I'm not sure what these signify. Possibly option codes, but the fiche doesn't list them.

My '85 doesn't have a tag there.

my 85 CGT's and my 87.5 CGT didn't have it either, they had a paper sticker "build tag" in the trunk attached to the lid.

I think that the paint codes are duplicated, as audi was doing 2 tone type 85's at one point. i.e. a different colour (and code) below the rubbing strip. I had a Mars red GT that was a darker red below the rubbing strip, and a different paint code
