oxs sensor

I have looked thru my books but can't find out where it should be located. I have an 83. I am replacing it because the idiot light came on and I can't remember the last time the oxs sensor was replaced. Is there a reset button? Also, the car is pretty hard to start cold. When I do get it running the rpms stay pretty low and it ususally dies two or three times before it stays on. When it finally does run, it runs perfectly. I was hopeful that replacing the oxs sensor would help. Am I being too hopeful or is there something else I should look into as well?

Thanks

The light is based only on miles driven, not on the OXS operation.
The speedo cable connects to a box under the cowl cover. This box has a reset button to reset the mile counter.

The OXS has no effect on starting. It is not used until the engine is warm.

I'd look for a (some?) vacuum leaks. All those hoses are very old now (assuming you have not replaced them) and they get brittle, crack. With small leaks the car will start hard and run bad - but will get better as it warms up. I'm convinced a large majority of running issues on the CIS motors are caused by vacuum/boost leaks.

thanks for the replies....I can't find the reset switch though

I pulled the cluster out and can't find anything that looks like a reset button. Does the 83 have one in this area or is it somewhere else? I need to probably replace a few hoses too like you suggested.

i believe it is on the little box in the rain tray wherer the speedo cable goes. same as on old VWs

That was it! Thanks for the reply, I would have never thought it would be so easy.
