Default Re: quick tranny question

I'm pretty sure the transmissions are the same. The final drive in the urq is 3.89:1. I think it's the same in the 84 4kq. In 85-87, the final drive is 4.11:1.

Default Yes, it is an 016. ALL ur qs have 3:89 FD, ALL 4kqs have 4:11 FD.

If you want 4:11 FD in an ur q, you will need the rear diff from an '84/early '85 4kq with the one piece housing.

Default Correct, I'm doing that right now with a CRB in my new Ur...

Little more work than just switching out the diff's, but well worth it IMO.

Fun, fun, vroom, vroom.......

Default Yeah, what's the best approach for the axles?

Haven't really addressed that yet.

Thanks,

Default axles are the only thing different...

F&R subframe, mounts, etc. same PN#'s
prop shaft SAME PN#'s
shift linkage SAME PN#'s
the quattro uses 2 of the 857 407 271 A and 2 of the 857 407 272 A complete drive shafts and that is the only difference

Default Same part numbers as what, an S2 or a Euro S4?

Are you saying an S2 6sp tranny(CRB), will fit into an UrQ without any modification to the subframe? That would be nice...

And will the retaining clip for the shift linkage ball(at the tranny), from a US 90-93 Quattro Coupe fit the S2 6sp tranny? I need a replacement part and I would love to hear it's the same part no. as the European counterpart.

Thanks,

Fruitman

Default You might want to get in touch with 2bennet in CA......

or Dean Treadway directly. He has an 83 urq with the 6 speed from an S2 in it. 2bennet did the work on it.
