Default two things that bother me about my URQ

Slow wipers. Last night during heavy rain on the highway at night, the wipers were barely fast enough to let me see the road. Anyone else experience this and maybe have a solution to make the wipers faster?

Due to my desire for more power, I have only 2 original headlights in my URQ instead of the normal 4. The other 2 are removed for cooling and air for the turbo. This makes it difficult to see on rainy nights like last evening. The headlights have enough power when both the low and the high beams are on together, anyone know how I might wire this so that when I put my high beams on, it clicks both the highs and low beams on? Thanks!

Ben

I don't, I wouldn't... The problem with RAIN-X is, once you start using it, you are hooked for life, it's darn near impossible to get off once on. BTDT.

For addressing the slow wiper, IME all audi wipers get slow because as the grease audi uses starts to age it becomes more like glue than grease. To address the problem, remove the wiper assembly and take apart the wiper motor gearbox (make sure you pay attention to park indexing). Get some brake cleaner and really go at the "glue/grease" that's in the gearbox. Once thoroughly cleaned, take a synthetic grease (I use mobil one synthetic grease) and lub up the gears well. Assemble is reverse of removal.

WRT to the headlights, as you can see I have the same inner light removal. I relayed both the high and the low beam, and IME, or I should say in my car the low and the high come on in the H4 high position. I'm pretty sure that isn't a failure, that's the way the circuit works.

A solution of distilled white vinegar and water takes it right off.

Default I've never understood that argument.

You're right that it's tough to get off once on. But why would you want to get it off? Rain-X absolutely rocks. I use it on my avant's back window too so I don't have to run the rear wiper in the rain.

There are things like crack that you can't stop once you start. Then there are things like AudiWorld that so rock you don't ever want to quit using. I think Rain-X is like the latter.

Cheers,
Rich

Default Re: I've never understood that argument.

My wagon never had problems with the rear window, nor did my sedans and really my urq. Once rolling all of them kept pretty clear. Want to REALLY keep your wagon rear window dry, add about 1/2 inch lip to that spoiler.

A properly functioning wiper system on audis isn't that hard to achieve. Rain-x has believers, I'm just not one of them. I remember a guy wanting to cut grooves in my windshield above the wipers once too....

Use Rain-x if you want, but addressing the wiper problem has nothing to do with rain-x IMO/E. Service the wiper gearbox with fresh grease, and make sure your motor is getting the proper voltage.
