Default UPG let's start planning for 06....

...can't do the the normal route to Bethany, CT this year, what about Lime Rock Vintage fest on Labor day? Possibly a climb to the clouds at East Rock Park in CT? Trying for a Sunday event so gmbchef can come(chef at popular resturaunt+nights and weekends=no free time) also Mainekid talked about the German Car Day at the Owl's museum in Maine. I was also thinking about the Host in Sturbridge, a hotel that puts on cars shows and it's easy to get to, right at the junction of RT 84, Mass Pike Rt20 and rt131.

Default I don't have a problem with LIme Rock - but some folks might.

Lime Rock is about $30 if you pre-register but if you just show up that day it's at least $50. It might be hard to get the cars together in one spot.

Carlisle is beginning to make good sense for UPG - as they have camping and it's multi-day.

The hotel and East Rock park spots seem fine.

I actually like UPG on asphalt - because I like to look under the cars at times.

Thanks mike. (today is one of the rare days my urq is registered but I left it at the parking sturcture at work so it won't get wet.)

Default Limerock also has hundred of great cars to distract us from our urqs.

Which means it's tempting for many to lock up their urq and spend hours look at the tigers , bmws , 911's. So it's possible to see a nice urq - but never actually meetup with the owner because one of you is out enjoying the field of cars.

I brought my urq to limerock 2 years ago and had a great time but I was OWL for a few hours checking out the other marques.

Default Owls head.....

I was able to go there a few years ago, and there was a cut-off for pre-'74 cars.
(probably different now ,as this was in '98)
I was able to enter my near mint VW Corrado, becuase VW was the honored marque that year.

Maybe a pre-arrangment for the urq's is posible.

Default My GT allowed? Or both GT's?

Both may be ready. BTW, my GT build article should be in the next Gripster, for those who get the NEQ Audi Club newsletter. Ur-Q content: My GT has passed many, many Ur-Q's on track. More Ur-Q content: My V8 is ready to be 4.2 donor for the V8UrQ, and I'm working on the current owner of the donor Ur.

Default Probably

Historically - if it's been at a small location - if you don't show up in a urq you park off-site.

Unfortunately a cgt in the middle of a row of urq's might soil the photo a bit, despite how hot it is - so it might be best to park at the ends. I have both a urq and cgt - but if I can only show up with the CGT I'll park it off to the side a bit. It just won't blend in with the urqs.

Default I like Carlisle too..(many reasons inside)

I like Carlisle too, for a couple of reasons.

1) URQ owners are a funny bunch. Some are very 'frugal', and some like to spend money. So Carlisle works for those who want to save money and camp, and also for those who want to stay in a hotel. Camping can have it's own adventures, for those who stay up late by the beer keg.. :-)

2) The 'infrastructure' of a meeting place is already setup.

3) People can arrive and leave on different times/days, and not miss 'everything'.

4)We can show off our urq's to the 'converted' (othe Audi owners who attend Carlise. Especiall the 'old' Audis that attend), and to also to the 'non audi' crowd who attend Carlise, who may not have seen a urq for years.
Some may like the 'exclusivity' of past UPG meets, but I think that the more URQ's get seen, then the better a case for 'pleading our case' for Audi support. More may come too, if they don't feel that UPG so 'formal'. Maybe?

5)If the conversation about 'urq's' gets a bit boring, there are lots of other interesting cars to go look at, and people to talk to.

6) Probably a better chance getting one's significant other to come along, as there's lots to see at the Carlisle fair ground, and if that's not enough, there's the town itself to go see.

7) In the past, big tents have arrived, giving a focus to the 'hanging out', and keeping the rain off. Barbques have been organized, and that's a bit of an adventure too. I'd think if he wanted to, Gary could still arrange a 'cooking' thing, with some help from the rest of the gang to organize.

8)A more 'central' location. It's a bit farther for the CT/Mass gang, but closer for others who may not otherwise attend a CT upg. (For those coming from Colorado, that may not be a factor!)

9)Related to 1: Pre-Registartion was cheap: 15.00, and camping was only 15.00 for the weekend. How can you beat that? :-)

And.. Lots of fun Audi folks show up. Maybe that's the BEST reason for doing UPG at Carlisle!

Default From the side, who can tell the difference :-)

Do you know how many Ur-Q owners have mistaken my car on track for an Ur-Q?

Ok, only one.

But, still, the point remains.
