Default White Smoke, Low Power, Hesitation at Low RPM.

The white smoke goes away after the car has been run for about 15 minutes. The hesitation occurs consistently when I press the accelerator at low rpms only (1000 - 1700rpm). I also saw white smoke coming from the large rubber hose that goes into the top of the intake manifold toward the front of the car and I know I have at least one vacuum leak I can hear in the cabin of the car. I also have been told the the tailpipe/muffler is too small and restrictive for the car.

Anything else I should fix or consider? It appears that I am not losing coolant into the head. Could the white smoke/low power be from the vacuum problems? Anyone have a part number for the large hose that goes into the intake manifold?

TIA

Default 10V

I do have a 20V 3B engine, but that is not going in until I get everything else done (probably at least a year).

Default If its white, I'm guessing some type of water leak.

Is your turbo water cooled?

What kind of boost does the car make? Are you sure its white and not blue smoke?

It's oil cooled, boost I have not measured, but it is obviously poor, and it is definately white smoke.

TIA

Default Well, My Guess

Is that the turbo is leaking water into the turbo's oil bearing and its boiling off into the intake tract/and or the exhaust. Is there any water in your oil?

Thats pretty much the only consistent source for white smoke coming into the intake. Might make some interesting water injection technique :-)

Aside from that, the turbo bearings of the center section seem suspect as well. Interesting thing is obviously, someone did a water cooled turbo conversion to your car. Who installed it and how old is it?

Default My Mistake! It's stock oil cooled

Sorry, my bad. Does this narrow it down
to the cylinder head, I hope not. The oil
has always been clear with no apparent
water in it.

Default Yes could be,

I would think you have a head gasket problem.
or worse a cracked head.

Not sure how steam found its way to the intake tract, unless the turbo is really shot.

Default Re: Yes could be,

Thanks for the input. Looks like I am
going to have some hands-on professional diagnosis done before decide what to do next. Maybe the engine swap should be done sooner
than later. Hopefully it is just a head
gasket, vacuum leaks, and the turbo.
