Anyone here ski/ride backcountry? I'm getting the itch.

used to, because i can't find anyone here willing to religiously,....
carry probes, a shovel, and a transceiver (& know how to use it). bunch of folks in this state lookin' to be popsicles

Hell, I'm safe to the point of being paranoid.
There's a lot of stuff out there I could ski/ride down that I don't because I've heard so many horror stories. You're out by Glenwood, right?

You should take a class
They have 'em at Silverton and in Summit County, of course, I think they are usually in January.
|
Yeah, I've wanted to the last couple years but haven't
I've been to three seminars put on by REI and the Avie Rescue Team but haven't had any field work aside from practicing beacon usage with friends.

no, manitou springs, on the shoulder of pikes peak
i've lost alot of friends in avalanches and mountaineering accidents. i pulled myself off the back crown fracture of a big slab avalanche, snowboarding once. hairball!
