I have an 2002 A4 3.0 sport package and the low steering fluid was diagnosed as a fluid leak and that was diagnosed as a bad steering rack. The recomendation is that we replace the steering rack with a rebuilt steering rack around $800 and the labor around $1200 (+ -). We are having a problem coming up with the cash or a will to do so. I was wondering:

Are these quoted prices in the ball park? (We are in Fort Collins) Should we look around for other quotes?

Is there another possible fix?

Have you looked at SCR Performance in Loveland. See what they will charge. It is not a easy fix. I have had racks replaced on a 90 and it was a lot of work. Sorry for the late reply. Keep the fluid topped off before before you damage the rack more. You can buy more of the fluid from Ed Carroll
