Default Spacer or not to Spacer?

The new ADR wheels I bought for the wife's A6 don't quite fit. They are a 17x7 with a 38mm offset, which means they hit the front calipers. I really like the wheels, but cannot get ahold of the ebay retailer until Monday. ADR makes these wheels in 35mm offset, but only if I go to a 17x8 wheel. It appears I need a 5mm spacer on each side. Which should I do, I hate to pay the shipping and restock charge to return the wheels, but what's the risk with the 5mm spacer.

Default Not really any risk with a 5 mm spacer.

I guess I would first determine what width of wheels do you really want? If you're happy with 7", just go for the spacers. You can probably get them from Tire Rack or Edge Racing. If not, try an ADR retailer.

Default Would 3mm spacers work?

If so, I'm not using mine anymore and would sell them. I also have the longer wheel bolts to go with them.

Default

I run a 15mm hubcentric spacer, no issues what so ever...so 5mm will be fine.

Default Re: Spacer or not to Spacer?, followup

I got an email from the seller last night, he is willing to let me return the wheels, I pay shipping and a restock charge, but he has some 1/4" spacers he will sell me for $20.00 for all 4. I talked to Andy at Autosport Werks, they have H&R 5mm spacers for $50.00 per axle. Might go that route and get the H&R spacers as they will center the wheel on the hub. My next issue is getting the tires mounted on the car in the spring. Not all tire shops in town will mess with spacers. The Discount I normally deal with won't do it, but some of the other ones will, but only if they are vehicle specific/manufacturer specific. When I said that they were H&R, they were willing to do it. So we'll see.

Default the spacers that guys is talking about may be generic...be careful

if they are not specific to your car, ie-hubcentric, then it will be nearly impossible to center them, and you will have a constant vibration while driving...not only unsafe, but can cause damage to your tires in the long run. the H&R's are made specific to each vehicle, and are PERFECT fits. You get what you pay for. I run H&R on both my cars, 15mm on the Audi, and 5mm on the MINI....I could not be happier.

The discount tire at 92 and Wads will mount them, but if you need a hand, it is easy enough, I would be happy to help. About the same as putting on a wheel anyway, just one more little thing in there to allign.

cheers
