Thinking of moving to an older S4, feeler
 

I'm thinking of moving to a older (1993) S4. I'm just using it as a work travel car and could use the money for home improvments and such. Thought I would put up a feeler for my car.

2000 S4, Yellow, 80,000ish miles, 6-speed
GIAC Chip, Bailey DV, low temp aftercool t-stat

Runs like a demon, everything works and is in good shape except a couple burned out lines in the center display and a small broken piece on the front bumper. Wanting to get $18,000 out of it.

As any S4, modding is addictive:)

6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another.....
 

They are both going to cost money, one is newer...maybe nicer.....One is older....easier to work on. But the price difference between them is not huge. The older S4s still carry a hefty preimum. Onse you sell yours, pay taxes on the new one, fix whatever is wrong with it and start the modding I would almost bet the time and effort may not be worth it.

I don't think it would be that close...
 

There are a bunch of older S4's out there (nationwide) in aparent good condition for $8000 or less. If I got $18k for my car, that's a $10k difference! I love wrenching and could fix any issues for the cost of parts, so I should be able to come out ahead in the end.

Of course there is a really nice UR-Quattro on Ebay right now. Wouldn't need anything apparently and I've -always- loved those. But I'm sure it will be bid up quite a bit from where it's at and I doubt it's anywhere close to as comfortable as the newer 90's S4's... but I have a weak spot for the rare and unusual. ;-)

True, but for $10K what does a B5 S4 have that a UrS4 doesn't?
 

Some options? Less miles? I am not totally sure but if you could put a price on each one it may be interesting to see how the nubmers worked out.

For me a big part would be that the difference could pay for new windows in the house and paying off some debt. I could live with a few features in exchange. Eliminating a $180/mo car payment would also be welcome being a single income family. It's tough to make these "grown-up" decisions when I've always loved my cars. It can be tough to make it sometimes... (yeah, go ahead and play that violin music ;-)

FWIW I love the old S4s too.
 

Just not sure it is worth the switch. Most of the nice ones I see are $12K.
