Default 2003 RS6 Fluid Leak

Hi All,

I have a very slow, small leak coming from the area right under the shifter. It's a light lubricant. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Is the center Torsen diff right there? I haven't jacked up the car to crawl under as yet.

TIA

Center diff seal from the output shaft I bet. Having mine replaced in a couple weeks. Seems to be a weak point. I think the seal is $38 bucks.

Center diff rear seal leak-Repaired!!

Thanks for the near confirmation of my suspicions.

Any idea yet what the labor cost or time is?

You have made my weekend! What an enormous relief. I was so worried it would cost thousands...

Dropped in to see if the RS6 get's much attention here...get my 1 post in per year: 11 total

Yes, it's the 'rear AT' seal; center diff.

Curious what the actual labor in terms of hours that was charged? The process is tedius and almost requires 2 people. It's crucial to correctly align the prop shaft. I seem to have to realign them whenever someone else has "been in there".

Published flat rate times are about 3 hrs, and it will take that amount of time. That doesn't include changing the gear lube, which absolutely should be done at the same time. FWIW, i use 85-140 Amsoil in my RS6 as it's tuned and is very torque rich (as any RS6 owner knows). I can recommend specifics for the entire car (ask or PM).

Hope to see the RS6 on topic more often. Check out 'Audi RS6' on FB also.
