54 hours door to door. No clearbra, no snow tires, no brains :-p

Yes, that's road salt deposited on the RS6. Pic taken somewhere in the mid west on Saturday.

<img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/frencjas/RS6/IMG_0841.jpg">

32 hours straight driving from the dealership in NJ, then a 10 hour nap in WY, then 12 hours driving to Kirkland, WA, home at last!

I washed the car today, Monday, and there are some rock chips, small ones mostly on the bumper, but they're there. Some missing paint behind the front wheels on the lower arch sandblasted off from sand/gravel off of my tires. I'll get that resprayed/blended soon. Such is life, I'll get the front end resprayed in a few years if it starts to bother me. At least I won't be so worried about driving her on the highway given I've already devirginized her. It was really the best thing, I am convinced of that.

Tons of snow driving at high speed didn't help the cause. After a few hours in the snow straight out of NJ and into Penn, I stopped for gas and saw I had Michelin Pilot Sports... DOH!!! I should have checked sooner, but it didn't really seem to bother me or the car. What was I going to do, stop and buy new tires?... I think not. I just drove like I was on egshells any time the road was white, just as I do with snow tires on. ESP light flashed a few times, but mostly only when I was on surface streets getting gas or pitstop.

The RS6 is an amazing car. I have no complaints whatsoever. None, nada, zip, zilch! It is an awesome road car, powerful, luxurious, fast, quick, and ohhh the sweet sound of that 'sound exhaust'!!! It is so intoxicating, I revel every time I start the car or accelerate briskly.

I really thought I'd find some flaws, rattles, idiocyncracies that were'nt quite right, but after 2924 miles ranging from 0 to 130 mph with MANY miles of 100+ cruising, driving her in D, S, and Paddle mode, it performed flawlessly and intuitively. Basically, I couldn't be happier!

I heart my RS6! Now the question, to daily drive and high mile her or save for weekend or sunny days and baby her??? I'm leaning towards the latter, but am still considering the former.

Congrats! That was the mother of all road trips. Just got mine too, and love it. I also thought I'd find stuff I didn't like...but it's just an amazing car.

My name is Brad and I'm a torque addict :).

jc 01-23-2007 07:22 AM

Daily driver. was mine for 2 years and loved it.

French-Fried-Rings 01-23-2007 07:34 AM

I knew someone would figure it out for me, too many clues ;-)

French-Fried-Rings 01-23-2007 07:41 AM

Since my Stage 3 S4 is now totalled (y'didn't hear?), it makes the decision harder.

I'll be rollin the rental until I sort it out and get a payout from the insurance, and let the RS6 rest in the garage from its long voyage home.

Works as daily driver but could get expensive. How much warranty left?

I used mine as a daily driver until Dec 05, at which point I had piled on 50K mi in two years and four months -- averaging nearly 1800 mi per year. That's a lot, but as long as it was under warranty, I was OK with it.

Now, tho, I face a couple of issues: 1) continuing that sort of pace will be expensive because even though I have an extended warranty to 100K, tune-ups alone are pricey &amp; are mine to pay from now on (figure $3K at 75K mi); adding miles at a fast pace means tuneups come up faster too; 2) continuing that pace also will wear out the car faster, obviously; and, 3) more miles = less value at resale.

Bottom line: If I could afford it, I would drive this car into the ground and not worry about it -- just get another if it wears out, right? But I do have to watch my spending, so recently i got a used Pontiac Vibe as a "beater" to absorb many of those previous daily driver miles. I may not be saving much money, with the cost of insurance &amp; all, but my RS6 will last longer at this reduced pace -- and I appreciate it even more after driving the Vibe.

French-Fried-Rings 01-23-2007 11:15 PM

Pontiac Vibe?!? Ouch! I have CPO until 7/2010.

jc 01-24-2007 06:22 AM

a vibe?

Dr.Aronis 01-24-2007 06:40 AM

my car looks like that most of the time....don't have time to wash it.

no.radar 01-24-2007 06:56 AM

The *sporty* Aztek.

jatwrite 01-24-2007 08:10 AM

You don't need another car then. BTW before the Vibe I had a Crossfire SRT6...

...which was great for the first few months I owned it in Florida. But then I developed back problems, followed by a return to Michigan and its crappy roads. I could no longer comfortably drive the SRT6, so I had to sell it. No more low cars for me!

I took a financial bath selling the SRT6, did not want to repeat that experience, still wanted to avoid continued high miles on the RS6, and I needed higher seating. Ergo the used Vibe, which adds utility to my "fleet" that I didn't have before, and I won't take much of a bath because it already was cheap. (Utility = being able to carry small furniture in the back, lay down on completely flat floor if tired or in pain, and do it all while averaging an honest 27 mpg city/hwy on regular unleaded. Seats are comfortable, ride quality decent, and mine includes aftermarket stereo upgrade &amp; stylish Einke wheels .)

High performance? For that I drive the RS6!

French-Fried-Rings 01-24-2007 12:48 PM

Vibe is cheap, and possibly 'smarter' than owning a second european car.

I just can't stand American cars, that's all. They are putting out some more decent product recently, but it doesn't really matter to me, I'm a euro car snob and proud of it.
