How many miles should the dealer drive after a service?

just got my RS7 back after a warranty repair - replaced the line to the oil cooler and saw that they drove the car 15 miles. is that excessive in your opinion?

Most services involve a short run around the block, maybe a quick blast on a fast road to check everything is in order. 15 miles is excessive (not to mention eating up shop labour time)

Was your warranty repair drivetrain related?

You put an RS7 into a dealer, someone wants to take that beast for a ride!

If you have VCDS, there is a way to check the launch control count.

For part of the cooling system they would have had to make sure that nothing blew once the car was up to temp.

15 miles is a bit much, but perhaps not to the point I'd call "excessive." With the cold temps this time of the year, my S6 is barely up to full oil temp by the time I get to work and that's about 8 miles. They'd need to drive at least a couple miles past that point to make sure it was OK.

Edit: I checked again yesterday on my way in to work. After I arrived the oil temp was only 168F, so 15 miles is looking a lot more reasonable.

15 miles is not that bad of a test run (especially on the highway) to ascertain that the new line to the air cooler is OK. A 15 mile run for me is doable within 20-minutes with light to no traffic in 70% highway/30% city driving. Not excessive in my opinion. Maybe an 8 to 10 mile run would do but 15 miles is not off the charts as others have mentioned.

RS7 does not have launch control.

15 is not terrible, you have to keep in mind they want to make sure its not going to leak post replacement. Alternately they may have not gotten right the first time, had to go back tighten something and then go out again. 50-60 miles yes, but 15 for something like that is not bad.
