Default "Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced)

... P0011 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - MIL ON"

Am I the first to see this? I googled and it's a common issue on some of the 1.8T motors but not necessarily on the 4.2L V8 FSI...

You may need a Camshaft Position Sensor.

Default Another possibility

I don't want to be an alarmist, but I had a similar problem with my B6 S-4. Not the FSI motor, but the same basic architecture. It turned out to be not just a sensor, but a failed cam adjuster - it was stuck in the fully advanced position. It was a real PIA since the entire engine had to come out to replace it, as all the camshaft drive mechanisim (adjusters, gears, chain, tensioner, etc.) is at the rear of the engine.

Hope yours is just a sensor!

Bob

Default Camshaft Position Sensor Errors

I had a camshaft position sensor replaced on an '06 S4:

I can look up the VAG COM reading if you are interested, I think I emailed it to the service tech.

Default That would suck. The best part is that there are THREE sensors, one of which is under the intake....

As in, under the intake-manifold. So they have to pull that off just to get to the third.

However, when I left today they'd tested two and cleared the engine codes, car's running fine. It's bizarre because when I cleared it on both ECUs before, the code came right back. They cleared it and now it's really gone.

Default UPDATE: The adjuster was indeed stuck. The tech let the pressure out of it and its been okay, but...

...they have the car now and are checking through it fully. I'm also getting an alignment, so that works out just fine in the end. We'll see how this all pans-out.
