Dear All,

First of all, let me say I'm a complete novice...but I love to drive....LOVE to drive. As a road salesman, I'm sort of high profile, and put on 500 - 800 miles a week. My dream car for years has been an RS4 and I'm in a position to replace my (fairly) trusty Saab 9-5 with 210K on it with a do it all car that will handle the miles, satisfy my mid-life crisis, in this car...( I don't want 2 cars ). I do like the look of the S5, so I'm curious and encouraging some feedback from some owners on their experience and view. Many thanks - I'm really looking forward to becoming an Audi owner in the next couple months.

If you drive 500 - 800 week, you may want a new S4 or S5. Unless perhaps you can find a leftover or low milage RS4.


That being said. I personally would take the RS4 (I'm alittle bias seeing I own one) I just love the V8 over any forced induction engine has to offer, plus I like the styling of the RS4 over the other two. That's not to say the S4 or 5 are ugly.

I'd go with the new S4 or the V6 S5 (if they put the SC in that car) Performance of the new S4 is close to the RS and much better gas mileage. The V8 S5 does not get good gas mileage but a V8 is a V8

I'm a long time Audi advocate and auto/driving enthusiast. I understand the enthusiasm toward driving. I've spent adequate seat time behind the wheel of the cars you are considering and the related product over the years.

Based on your situation with the mileage per week, your previous car and your enjoyment of driving, I'd say the S4 or S5 would be most suitable. Of course, this is my guess based on your post, but you really need to drive both (best of luck finding an RS4; they're rare) to decide. The suspension tuning on the S5 vs RS4 will be more comfortable for the long hauls, yet (I'd venture to say) still sporty enough for an enthusiast that enjoys driving.

I'd be interested in hearing your feedback after test driving each and what your final decision may be.
