Re: Oil change??
The idea of changing your RS4 oil early and often seems to have caught on with some here.
It's not a bad idea to get the orig oil out at about 2k, IMO. After that though, I would go to a 5k schedule...even on the RS4.
What are the recommended intervals on your Cayman?

Re: Oil change??
Dave is right - oil analysis shows that oil that comes in the car originally thins out (sheers) considerably as well as containing large amounts of silica from the cylinder walls in as little as 1800 miles.
I've seen 1500 miles recommended, but I wanted to get that oil out of there in preparation for the 1200-mile breakin point. From here on in, I'll probably change at 5000 mile intervals.

Yes, the silica, like glass...what's it doing elsewhere inside the engine? I've always changed my oil very early on in any new car...due to break-in. It may not be as critical with the newer engines, but I still just do it out of habit.

20,000 miles!!!
If you can believe that...seriously. I believe it's the same on all Pcars. I'll probably get the first change at around 5k miles however. After that I may follow an Audi-like routine of 10k mile intervals. No reason for me to do it any sooner.
As for the first oil change, I think it's paranoia. There are special additives in that first factory fill that are important. If you don't follow the "Audi" recommended maintenance plan you should ask yourself why not.
In all the cars I've owned whether it's a BMW, VW or Audi I always follow the maintenance schedule as stipulated by the manufacturer. Who knows their product better than they do? Not once have I experienced any detrimental effects from not changing out the oil sooner.
