2007 RS4 purchase; questions inside
All,
Please forgive me for cross posting this, but I was hoping to get as much info as I can.
The specifics: Looking to pick up a 26K mile CPO RS4 from Biener Audi for 46.8K (trading in a year-old Jeep SRT8). It's been a while since I've bought a used car, and I want to make sure that I think of everything.
My current questions are as follows:
1- in regards to the CPO process, what should I be especially watchful for? I know the DSC is a problem and I've read the complaints about the carbon build-up. Anything else to consider?
2- what is due at the 25K mile maintenance?
3- can I get audicare for this car? Of course the dealership claimed "this wasn't available on 07s" during our $$ negotiations.
I went and looked at a leftover 2008 S4 at Manhattan Audi and haggled them down to 44.5K for the 68 mile 08 and I just missed a 20K 08 S4 sell at $40K from Palisades Audi, so I'm comfortable with the price. But I am pushing to get as many freebies as possible (had them refinish the wheels, throw in an iPod Cable, and some all-weather mats) -- would like to get the Audi Care too. Car is very clean and has the normal scuffs and scrapes for a 3 year old car. Drives like a dream!
Any thoughts or insight on what to look for mechanically and any advice on preventative maintenance I should ask the dealer to do would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks and I hope to join your ranks soon!

Get the VIN, call another dealership and find out if the original owner purchased it with the car. It automatically transfers from owner to owner. For the 07s I do believe you would of had to purchase Audi Care within the first 10-15k of owning the car. After the mileage is bypassed you're pretty much sol. At 46k, imo, it's still a good deal though.

How about a list of options that were available for the 07 model year?
The car has Nav, moonroof, and CF bits inside. Are there any other options this car could've had?

If it's blue, they paid $40K for it at auction. $46.8K is not too bad for CPO from an Audi dealer. Of course you have a trade, so that skews things....what are the details of it (model, year, miles, condition)? I can let you know what they sell for at auction.
Another thing you might want to consider is asking them to drop CPO, give you $2K off the car in exchange, and then buy a Fidelity Platinum plan for better and longer coverage. You'll pay about $3700, so extra $1700, but you get 5 years of exclusionary coverage vs. 2 years of named component. And Fidelity is Audi's nationwide extended warranty provider, so claims are painless.
