Default 2007 RS4 Winter set

Guys
Winter is coming. Can you suggest a good set of 18 inch wheels and tires.

I have been seeing wheels made by Velocity - any thoughts.

Yes, don't want to use any spacers...

Thanks

If interested email me, as I just sold my 07 RS4 and have a set of 4 Dunlop Winter Sport D3 tires and one stock RS4 19" wheel and TPS available. Have not posted on Marketplace yet.

Why not just put winter tyres on the stock, why compromise the look?

If you are driving in true winter conditions, you need higher profile tires. Here in Calgary, you would damage your rims for sure if you just put winter tires on the stock 19" rims. I'm getting 18'rims and I'd use 17" if they'd fit.

Default Get a second set of stock wheels with 255/35/19 Dunlop Winter Sport 3D

This comes up every year. 98% of the time, even in very snowy regions, the roads are relatively clear. No need to compromise so much for 5-6 months out of the year. Last year, even in 8" of snow the RS4 was absolutely flawless with 255/35/19's. Doubt I'll ever take it out in worse conditions than that.

Default Yes, higher profile tires are the conventional solution for winter, but last winter I went with

stock RS4 wheels and Dunlop Winter Sport 3D tires and they were by far the best winter setup I have ever had. The car handled like it was on rails in hard-packed snow and in icy conditions the compound provided exceptional grip. Whether one has 17" or 19" wheels, there is no way that an RS4 will handle deep snow. You would need much more ground clearance than is possible. I was surprised at how well the 255's tracked vs. narrower tires, like the 235's I had on my A6 4.2 for winter.
