Default 2008 RS4 w 96k miles for 26k Good/Bad Deal?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, looking to get in a B7 RS4 or B8 S4. The timing belt issues of the B6/B7 S4 scared me away, so here I am.

There's a 2008 RS4 with 96,196miles on it, currently listed at 26k (though I'm hoping I can haggle a little). 2008 Used Audi RS 4 RS4 QUATTRO SEDAN at Europlus Motorsports Serving North Brunswick, NJ, IID 16527488

Carfax listed here:

I inquired about the failed emissions tests, and the dealer assured me that this is due to carbon build-up which they've since cleaned, and they guarantee a clean emissions test (though it hasn't actually been retested since the cleaning).

Given the carbon cleaning, no accidents, and seemingly consistent care from the Washington state owner, I'm hoping this would be a reliable car.

I'd be driving it once or twice a month on weekends, both for summer drives and ski trip drives up north, so I'm not planning to put many miles on it. I live in New York.

I really appreciate your feedback. What other questions would you ask? How does this price sound? Is there a way for me to verify whether suspension has been replaced? Would you recommend a PPI? (and do dealers usually allow you to do that?)

There's another RS4 listed here for 22k but with 110k miles - https://cnj.craigslist.org/ctd/d/200...308272137.html

Which one would you go for?

Did you end up buying either car?

@mm1856 I didn't end up going with either. I wound up buying a B8 Audi S4 with a 6-speed manual.

On the first car, I had a bad experience at the dealer - they tried to tack on 3k of "dealer fees" before even test driving the car, while admitting that the car needed new tires and brakes (which was obvious from looking at it).

On the second car, I had a way better experience and really liked that dealer; the issue was primarily that the white leather interior didn't wear well over time and looked old. I also test drove it and, dare I say, it almost felt "too fast" --- but that might have also been becuase the tach was in km/h which kept tripping me up - seemed like I was going way faster haha.

In the end i'm really happy with the decision. I got a good deal on the new car, it has great service history, and I'm already tweaking it (I put a new ROC Euro intake on it, and I'm looking at AWE exhaust to help add some theater to the exhaust note, like the RS4 had). That said, there's no doubt that RS4 is a special car.. maybe I'll be looking to trade in sometime
