Default Another clutch problem?

I'm noticing a sort of double hitch when switching from first two second... As I'm letting off the clutch I feel the car almost stutter... I don't feel it when going through any other gears... Should I be concerned?

Recently picked up my RS4 in the beginning of november... I currently have about 2600 miles and haven't exceeded 6000rpms yet... Any ideas on what the problem could be or how to handle the situation? The problem arose about a week ago and has stayed since... Any help would be greatly appreciated... many thanks...

Could be a number of things, not only related to the clutch.

May be an engine stumble or hesitation...maybe a bad syncro, maybe throwout bearing or flywheel. I would take it in pronto and see if the dealer can narrow it down and diagnose properly.

Thanks for the prompt reply... It'll probably be a few days before I can get it into the dealer... Right now it's more of a nuisance than anything... Can I do harm by driving the car, or am I safe for now?

Default what RPM are you shifting at from 1st to 2nd?

1st can be jolty if you don't either rev up to 5k and then shift, or if you are reving and shifting much lower (say 3kish) then you need to blip the throttle to keep the revs high enough because they drop pretty fast.

I usually shift around 3k between 1st and 2nd... I'll try waiting until 5k and see how it feels... I also notice something strange (possibly what a slip might feel like?) when shifting from neutral to second after nearing a stop sign or light before coming to a complete stop... Could it be related? I haven't driven the car hard enough to wear anything down but I may be wrong... I've been babying it until I get closer to 5000 miles.. Thanks for the advice...

Default I don't know...

that's for you to decide. If you have a spare car it might be a good idea to use it until your RS4 problem can be diagnosed. Good luck.

That's where I almost always shift 1-2, 3k rpm, cold and warm, under normal circumstances. I do not believe that is the problem. Strike that! I CAN NOT believe that is the problem.

Anytime you try to re-engage a gear from neutral while the car is moving you are going to have problems...either it won't go into gear easily, or it may grind or shutter, as the syncros are no longer spinning once you drop into neutral. Don't do that is my advice, for what it's worth.

Default Oh yes, 5K is a great shift point. It puts you at 3K rpm in 2nd gear

The torque curve falls off quickly below 2K rpm.

But when you want power, you shift at 8K, which places you at 4.8K in 2nd gear, where all hell breaks loose on the power curve.

BTW, in Run 3 of my Fuel Dilution experiments above, there was no noticable increase in wear on this engine, when running a combination of WOT and closed throttle for 50 miles. And I ran her up to redline, and back again, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear many times during that test.
