Another oil use datapoint
I'm at 1300 miles and I'm going on a long trip tomorrow so I checked the oil tonight so I'm not caught short out in the middle of no where. Not to get Dr GP too excited :-), but I'm at the very, very lower end of the acceptable area on the stick.
I'm going to get some Castrol Syntec 5W30 at Autozone in the morning before I leave. (Thanks for the tip, Bob W!)

1000 miles, 1 qt low here. I topped off with Castrol Syntec 5W40. (edit)
I have used a hybrid break-in. Essentially I tried to replicate what Dr. GP/MotoMan suggest within the confines of <b>ALWAYS</b> staying within the published AoA official break-in guidelines. If it makes a difference in the end, I'll write-up exactly what I did.

actually Castrol Syntec 5W40 would be preferable (Autozone should have it)...
...Autozone also carries Mobil 1 0W-40, which would have been my 2nd choice. Castrol Syntec 5W30 and Mobil 1 5W30 aren't VW 502.00 approved, so technically you shouldn't add more than 1/2 qt. of either of those.
