Default Another old-timer back into the fold...

After having a couple of B5 S4's and a two-year break away from Audi with a few other toys, I signed up a couple of days ago on the last unsold Black RS4 sedan in Australia. Sedan orders were stopped a while back and as far as I know only one or two unsold sedans are left in Aus.

I travel the 800 kms next weekend to pick it up and casually drive it home. Will post pics once I'm home and it has my custom plates on it.

If there are any IBM/Lotus Software geeks still here, as there used to be a few years ago, the plate will read "QUICKR". I thought apt, given the vehicle that will wear it.

Thanks to the regular contributors who have filled my head in recent days with what I'm looking forward to experiencing soon.

Any comments on how restrictive the running-in/break-in limitation is and how it works are welcome. Is it only a rpm limitation or is it more advanced than that.

Thanks,
Mike

First 600 miles 6k RPM Max, 600-1200 miles 7K RPM. I think it will cut out if you exceed by a little, At least it seemed to for me

Default Break-in was THE hot topic when this forum started

Since then, it has died down. The consensus is aggressive within Audi guidelines. Warm it up, run it hard, do not exceed Audi's recommendations, cool it down. Change the oil at 1500-2000 miles. Max RPM's are stored somewhere so you need to be careful.

Default It will be worth the wait (and a few more thoughts)

The engine is tight from the factory. As it loosens up and you are allowed to increase the RPM's, your will fall in love. Post some photos when it arrives.

FWIW, I did a modified MotoMan break-in staying within Audi guidelines. I ran my car up to the max RPM's in a given gear then engine braked, cooled down a little and repeated in the next gear. Realistically, you can only do this through the first three gears. Anticipate up to two quarts of oil usage in the first 1000 miles. It will level off by the first oil change. I burned about 1/2 quart during break-in but other have burned up to two quarts.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm</a
