there are some OK places, but SF for steak...maybe nah. Better steaks, even chains, elsewhere imo.
For top notch grub...
If on your dime...and solo...walk down to Town Hall in SOMA.
If on biz dime...Michael Mina...but better with a 'client.' :-)
If you're an epicurian type...of course you'd know about opentable.com...and that walking up for one is usually possible...

im totally down for a last min AW meet. Im always up for good food.
I have an account on opentable but didnt think id need it on a Wed night. I wanted to go to Michael Mina but didnt know how it would be. Dont like his place in vegas. Wanted to try danko's place.
