Anyone drive their RS4 to Lake Tahoe in winter?
This is primarily for the bay area folks, Anyone take their RS4 to tahoe for skiing?
I have a clear bra (full hood covered), however I wonder if the film will get pitted from the sand/gravel they put on the road. I had a leather bra on our old A4 which worked well. I wonder if anyone makes a leather bra for the RS4 so i could put over the clear bra for extra protection. I know leather bras are ugly, Id use it on ski trips only. Just want to take care of my car.

I think rock chips are a bigger issue in better weather
If there is snow on the ground, I think you get less rocks flying around as they are stuck in the snow.

True. Well in that case, no dings at all from my 2 trips.
But I do have a tiny rock chip on the driver side front door... just from driving down I-680
Truck was 2 lanes over at the time too.
*sigh*
I see your concerns about the rock chips on your way to tahoe though, but honestly you'd have to put a bra/guard on the whole car. Even if you were to get a leather bra for the front, it's still entirely possible to get rocks kicked (from the road and even your own tires) up on the lower half of your car.
Let me know what you end up doing. I might be interested in doing the same thing.
Also: do you ski or board? Where do you usually like to go up in Tahoe? And give me some type of a heads up of when you're going up. I might be down to start a caravan.

Last year went to Kirkwood alot, and squaw a couple times.
I ski on twin tip skis, but I don't hang out in the park or anything, I like to hit up the whole mountain.

Kirkwood is my favorite spot up there. The most kinds of terrain. I would probably use winter tires. The stock tires can get pretty hard in the cold.

You should be fine.............
I'm driving to the mountains (hills) in the NE every weekend December through March so I know what you're worried about. After 5 years in my A4, the front end looked almost sandblasted from the winter trips. When I bought my B6 I had the dealer clear bra it before I even picked it up and after 3 winters in that car, the front end still looked perfect. Hardly a mark at all on the clear bra. I was very happy with how it held up and how it protected the car with all the winter miles I did so an occasional trip to Tahoe (lucky you) shouldn't give you any worries. Hope that helps
